Primary Sponsor: OMT DIVISION
The Organization & Management Theory Division is hosting a “Global Consortium” for the fifth consecutive year at the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, titled “Doing Organizational Research Around the World”. The objective of the workshop is (1) to expand the organization and management theory scholarship from global perspectives, with questions, issues and practices based on alternative cultural and historical backgrounds; (2) to obtain high quality and specific feedback on research, based in international settings, from experienced mentors; and (3) to discuss common challenges and opportunities of planning, implementing, and publishing high quality organizational research using international settings.
This PDW is sponsored by OMT and supported from regional organizations in a spirit of global collaborations: Africa Academy of Management, Asia Academy of Management, Iberoamerican Academy of Management, and Japanese Academic Association for Organizational Science.

The mentor and the author can arrange their one-to-one session at a convenient time to both. Email addresses can be found in the table. We will also have the time at the end of the program so that the author and the mentor can choose to have the one-to-one session in person. The author can choose to share the latest version with the mentor.
Here is the match table. You need a password to access this. Please find it in the email you received.

Panelists:
Panelists will address the advantages and challenges of leveraging data from global contexts. Topics may include sourcing data from non-traditional sources, ensuring data quality, funding for international data, access through collaborations, etc.
Panelists:
Do new contexts call for new theory? How should organizational theory be adapted or developed to take into account the different contexts? How do we deal with theoretical constructs that don’t translate well into the new context? What are the implications for generalizability of studies?
Panelists:
How should authors prepare their work on global contexts for publication in mainstream management journals? How can we convince reviewers of data quality? How can authors introduce reviewers/authors to an unfamiliar context? How does the framing of the paper – leading with context versus leading with theory – matter?
Several groups will be formed so that participants can extend the discussion based on the panel discussions. Particularly, junior scholars and students can consult senior scholars on some of the topics that concern them.
At the end of the session, we will have tables available for the authors and the mentors who choose to sit down and talk instead of the asynchronous one-to-one session.
We aim for the panel discussions to spur conversations on the joys and challenges of undertaking organizational research in the international context. Although we have proposed in-person attendee mentors to specific topics, we hope everyone (whether in-person or online) can jump in and share their perspectives on the different topics.
For panelists
Each panel discussion will begin with a short presentation (4-5 minutes) from each of the panelists. We are asking each panelist to please highlight your top 3 tips (or pet-peeves) related to the topic of your panel. We will then open it up for discussion.
Note to online participants
Since some of the mentors joining us online may be in challenging time zones, we have not assigned you to specific panels. However, we would very much like your participation in the panels you are able to join. Please feel free to jump in and share your insights.
